common CONDITIONS

Conditions we treat with excellent care

  • Mechanism of Action

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific meridians and acupoints in the body, helping regulate the flow of Qi and blood. This effectively relieves pain in areas such as the neck, shoulders, head, and lower back. It also promotes the release of endorphins, reduces inflammation, and relaxes the nervous system, thus alleviating stress and improving sleep quality.

  • Applicable Conditions

Chronic fatigue syndrome, muscle tension, anxiety, insomnia, and other stress-related issues often respond well to a combination of acupuncture, a healthy lifestyle, and additional therapies.

  • Postpartum Recovery

Stimulating points that balance hormone levels can help relieve postpartum back pain, fatigue, support uterine contraction and recovery, and stabilize mood after childbirth.

  • Irregular Menstruation & Dysmenorrhea

Acupuncture unblocks meridians and improves blood circulation, reducing menstrual pain, irregular cycles, and premenstrual discomfort.

  • Menopause

Targeted acupoint stimulation can alleviate hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and insomnia, helping the body smoothly transition through hormonal changes.

  • Infertility

Acupuncture supports luteal function and increases blood flow to the pelvis and uterus, improving egg quality and ovulation. When combined with herbal medicine, it further enhances the chances of conception.

  • Heart Rate Regulation

By calming the autonomic nervous system, acupuncture helps regulate heart rhythms and relieve palpitations or arrhythmias.

  • Early-Stage Hypertension

Acupuncture reduces sympathetic nervous overactivity and improves circulation, offering a natural and effective means of stabilizing blood pressure levels.

  • IBS, Acid Reflux, Bloating

Stimulating acupoints along the spleen and stomach meridians enhances intestinal motility and promotes digestive secretions, alleviating bloating, acid reflux, and spasms.

  • Appetite & Nutrient Absorption

For individuals with irregular eating habits or weak digestive function, acupuncture helps regulate spleen and stomach function, improving overall nutrient absorption.

  • Seasonal Allergies & Susceptible Populations

By balancing Yin and Yang within the body, acupuncture improves resilience to external environmental changes and increases tolerance to allergens.

  • Allergic Rhinitis, Asthma

Acupuncture stimulates relevant points along the lung, spleen, and kidney meridians, promoting easier breathing and reducing inflammation.

  • Blood Sugar, Lipids, Uric Acid

Acupuncture can influence endocrine pathways, enhance insulin sensitivity, and improve metabolic efficiency.

  • Weight Control

Ear acupoints or specific body points help suppress excessive appetite, regulate digestive function, and reduce the likelihood of weight rebound. This approach assists with weight loss or maintaining a healthy weight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate natural healing processes. It is based on the concept of balancing the body’s energy flow, or “Qi” (pronounced “chee”), and is used to alleviate pain, reduce stress, improve overall wellness, and address various health conditions.

The first appointment consists of a case history which involves asking you questions about your medical history, lifestyle, and the symptoms you are currently experiencing.

Acupuncture treatment involves the following key steps:

  1. Preparation: The practitioner will discuss your health goals and review your condition. You may be asked to lie down in a comfortable position, either on your back, stomach, or side, depending on the treatment area.

  2. Needle Insertion: Fine, sterile needles are gently inserted into specific acupuncture points on your body. These points are chosen based on traditional Chinese medicine principles and tailored to your specific needs.

  3. Sensation: You may feel a slight tingling, warmth, or a dull ache at the needle site. This is normal and often described as a sign that the body’s energy, or “Qi,” is being activated.

  4. Relaxation Period: The needles typically remain in place for 15-30 minutes. During this time, many patients feel deeply relaxed and may even fall asleep.

  5. Removal: The practitioner carefully removes the needles, which is usually painless.

  6. Post-Treatment Guidance: You may receive recommendations for self-care or follow-up treatments to enhance the benefits of acupuncture.

Acupuncture is designed to be a holistic and minimally invasive treatment that supports the body’s natural healing processes.

You may need to partially undress for acupuncture, but it depends on the treatment area. Acupuncture points are located all over the body, including the arms, legs, back, and abdomen. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Clothing: You’ll typically wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be rolled up to expose areas like your arms, legs, or abdomen.

  2. Draping: If access to areas like your back or shoulders is needed, you may be asked to remove certain items of clothing, but the practitioner will provide a sheet or towel to ensure your comfort and modesty.

  3. Communication: If you’re uncomfortable with undressing, let your practitioner know—they can adjust the treatment to work around accessible points or offer alternative solutions.

Your comfort and privacy are a priority during the session. Feel free to discuss any concerns with your acupuncturist beforehand.

Acupuncture is generally not painful. The needles used are very thin, much finer than those used for injections, and most people feel little to no discomfort during the insertion. Here’s what you might experience:

  1. Sensation on Insertion: You may feel a brief, mild sensation like a pinch or tingling as the needle is inserted, but this is usually minimal.

  2. Qi Sensation: Some patients feel a dull ache, warmth, or slight heaviness at the needle site, which is a sign of the body’s energy (“Qi”) being activated. These sensations are normal and not typically painful.

  3. Relaxation: Once the needles are in place, most people find the treatment relaxing, with many reporting a sense of calm or even falling asleep during the session.

If you ever feel discomfort during treatment, communicate with your practitioner—they can adjust the needles to ensure your comfort.
